Firestone Tire Performance Recap: Firestone Racing supplied the same tire specifications for Brazil as in 2012, and once again the red-sidewall alternates were the preferred choice in today's race. James Hinchcliffe put on a set of alternates used in qualifying the previous day and still had enough grip to move from fourth place to first in the final 15 laps – including the thrilling pass for the victory on the final lap. Runner-up Takuma Sato logged an incredible 38 laps (96.4 miles) on the set of Firestone alternate tires that he ran the entire second half of the race, yet was able to hold off everyone until the last lap.
From James Hinchcliffe, #27 GoDaddy/Andretti Autosport Dallara/ChevroletFirestone: "Last-corner, last-lap pass – no better way to do it. After warm-up this morning, I was worried that we were wearing the (alternate) reds off more than anybody. We made some changes and, man, they held up so good. We got to use them in the final stint and I think that was a big part of it. To play the tire strategy the way we did and have those reds hold up after all those restarts – it's always tough when you're heating them and cooling them – but they did such a good job holding up there. It's an honor to drive a car with Firestones on it."
