Firestone Tire Performance Recap: Firestone Racing strived to increase the performance level gap between the black-sidewall primary tires and the softer, red-sidewall alternate tires for Barber and it worked. Never was it more evident than in the decisive pass for the win. Ryan Hunter-Reay was able to carry more speed and brake later on his new set of Firehawk alternates, allowing him to successfully pass Helio Castroneves (on primary tires) for first place on lap 76 of 90 and drive on to the victory.
From race winner Ryan Hunter-Reay, #1 DHL/Andretti Autosport Dallara/Chevrolet/Firestone: "Firestone did a great job of bringing a big difference between the primaries and alternates. The racing was just incredible because there was a big difference between the reds and blacks. That’s what we based our whole weekend on. Our tire strategy worked perfect – (running a set of) new reds at the end. That’s what we had been planning all weekend and these Firestone reds were there for me when I needed them. We got the primaries out of the way in the middle (of the race) and then we used the grippy performance of the alternates at the end. We had to put ourselves in position to be second or right in there and then have new sticker reds for the end. That was my wish list this weekend and the guys gave it to me."
Carlos Munoz led every lap in winning the Legacy Indy Lights 100.
