Tire wins top rank in industry testing, now OE option on all-new 2011 Dodge Charger Pursuit

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 29, 2011) – Chrysler Group LLC has awarded the Firestone Firehawk GT Pursuit tire as an original equipment fitment for the ready-for-duty 2011 Dodge Charger Pursuit.

The Firestone Firehawk GT Pursuit is specifically designed for law enforcement use, which combines wet and dry handling with an emphasis on quick steering response. The tire was awarded the No. 1 rating from Police Fleet Manager magazine in 2009.

“We were incredibly excited about the Firehawk GT Pursuit’s showing in the Police Fleet Manager tests in 2009 and now to be awarded an original equipment fitment on the all-new 2011 Dodge Charger Pursuit reaffirms our belief in the versatility and industry-leading performance of this tire, even under the most demanding circumstances,” said Michael Martini, President, Original Equipment, U.S. and Canada Consumer Tire Sales Division, BATO.

In testing conducted by the Police Fleet Manager the Firestone Firehawk GT Pursuit tire was rated the best overall tire, as well as earning top spot for overall wet-oriented performance.

The Firehawk GT Pursuit tire for the 2011 Dodge Charger Pursuit is a P225/60R18 with a W-speed rating. Three key technologies help give this tire an edge in the market:

High Silica tread compound – enhances traction and breaking on wet roads that translates to improved cornering which means more confident handling.

Veri-Pitch technology – the random pattern of the tread blocks, resulting from applying Veri-Pitch technology, results in a reduction of noise.

Asymmetric tread pattern – a cut-up block and groove design on the inside edge of the tread pattern channels water to increase the grip surface for enhanced all-season capability

The Firehawk GT Pursuit was tested at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which is a highly recognized certification and testing agency for pursuit tires.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 20, 2009) – For emergency, rescue and police vehicles, a tire that delivers top performance, durability and dependability is critical. With lives potentially on the line, there’s no room for error. In recent testing by Police Fleet Manager, the Firestone Firehawk GT Pursuit proved to be the best tire for this demanding job, garnering top overall honors and rating first in wet-oriented performance.  “We knew the Firehawk GT Pursuit was a great tire, and the results of this test further reinforce our belief with solid facts,” said Phil Pacsi, Vice President, Consumer Marketing, U.S. & Canada Consumer Tire Sales division, Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations (BATO). “We’re excited about the Firehawk’s excellent performance. To rank first overall, when put through the real-world conditions pursuit vehicles face every day, offers real-world data first responders can depend on.”  The experts at Tire Rack partnered with Police Fleet Manager to test original equipment and aftermarket pursuit tires in several categories: ABS braking on dry pavement, ABS braking on wet pavement, vehicle dynamics on a dry road course and vehicle dynamics on a wet road course. For each of these objective, instrument-measured areas of performance, each test driver was asked to complete a subjective impression assessment for each tire.  Overall results, in which the Firehawk GT Pursuit ranked first were based on all four objective measurements plus all four subjective impressions, as well as wet and dry results. Tire rankings were also equally weighed between various sub-categories of performance, including tire response in slalom, tire cornering around static circle, braking distances and total lap times.  All tires were tested on a demanding wet and dry road course at Tire Rack headquarters in South Bend, Ind. Designed with 180- and 90-degree turns, short straights, cone slalom series and static circles, the tires were tested in the real-life conditions which drivers of police and emergency vehicles are often forced to face when on the job.  In addition to leading the competition as Police Fleet Manager’s “clear, stand-alone overall winner of the 2009 test,” the Firestone Firehawk GT Pursuit took top rankings in the objective measurements of wet slalom speeds (transient response) and wet stopping distances. Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC Extends Tire Recall

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 30, 2009) – Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC (BATO)
today announced that it’s expanding the recall it announced in October 2008 to include
additional Firestone brand FR380 P235/75 R15 tires that were manufactured by Bridgestone de
Costa Rica, S.A. (BSCR) at its San Jose Plant in 2007 and 2008. BATO estimates that about
127,000 Firestone FR380 tires from the additional production weeks have been sold in the U.S.
replacement market. It is also possible that a small number of these tires from the additional
production weeks may have been sold in the Canadian replacement market.

We are initiating a voluntary field action in the United States and Canada to replace 135,310 Firestone FR380 tires and 26,941 LeMans Champion SE tires (all subject tires are size P235/75 R15) that were produced at the Bridgestone Firestone de Costa Rica, S.A. plant during a specific time period in 2006 and 2007. Although no property damage claims, accidents or injuries have been reported with respect to the tires, they don’t meet our internal standards. Specifically, these tires were produced with insufficient tread base gauge. Continued use of these tires may lead to vibration and groove cracking. Voluntary field action related to tires with no reported property damage claims,
accidents or injuries

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 29, 2008) – Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire,
LLC (BFNT) and Bridgestone Firestone Canada Inc. today announced they are initiating a voluntary field action in the United States and Canada to replace approximately 135,000 Firestone brand FR380 P235/75 R15 tires that were imported into the U.S. and Canada. As part of this program, BFNT will also replace approximately 27,000 LeMans Champion SE P235/75 R15 tires that were imported into the U.S. (not sold in Canada). The tires covered under this program were manufactured by Bridgestone Firestone de Costa Rica, S.A. (BFCR) at that company’s San Jose facility. Although no property damage or personal injury claims have been reported with respect to these tires, they fail to meet the companies’ internal standards and will be replaced for consumers free of charge. Specifically, the subject tires were produced with insufficient tread base gauge and continued use of these tires may lead to vibration and groove cracking.

DESCRIPTION OF TIRES COVERED AND HOW TO IDENTIFY THEM

Firestone FR380

There are many types and sizes of and applications for Firestone FR380 tires. If you have FR380 tires, you may examine them to determine if they are part of this program. If you prefer to have a tire expert inspect your tires, we invite you to take your vehicle to your nearest independent Firestone tire dealer or Firestone Complete Auto Care, ExpertTire, Tires Plus, Hibdon Tires Plus, Wheel Works or Commercial & Farm (each a “Firestone Store”) store to determine if your tires are included in this program. Tires subject to this program can be identified by the following the steps:

(1) They are identified as “FR380”;

(2) The following information is molded into the sidewall of the tire below the “FR380” marking near the rim: “P235/75R15 105S”. If any other size, such as P20575R15 is marked on the sidewall, your tire is not included in this recall.
(3) Look for the tire’s DOT Serial number. The serial number location is directly after the “DOT” symbol on the sidewall of the tire, just above the rim. Check the full 11-character DOT serial number on the tire’s sidewall. If it falls within
the following range, WBHL 380 2306 through and including WBHL 380 3507 the tire is included in the recall.

The last four digits of the 11 character DOT serial number represent the week (01 to 53), and year (00 to 99) that the tire was produced.
If the tire has a partial DOT serial number that appears:
WBHL 380 or WBUL 380
the tire may be included in this recall. You must either look at the opposite sidewall to confirm that the full DOT serial number is within the range above or have a tire professional confirm the full DOT serial number.
(4) If the white stripe side of the tire is mounted to the inside, check the tires
DOT serial number on the black sidewall. If the tire DOT serial number matches
any of the following serial numbers,
WBHL 380 2306 through and including WBHL 380 3507 the tire is included in the recall.
If the tire has a partial DOT serial number that appears:
WBHL 380 or WBUL 380
the tire may be included in this recall. If you have difficulty identifying the DOT

REIMBURSEMENT If you have replaced a tire that you believe may be covered by this safety campaign at your own expense you may be entitled to reimbursement. BFNT will process
requests for reimbursement only under the following circumstances:
• You visited a Firestone retailer and you received a pro-rated warranty
adjustment (meaning that you paid for only a portion of the cost to have your
tire replaced). No requests will be considered if you replaced the tire at a
location other than a Firestone retailer.
• You have one of the following items:
o a “Bridgestone Firestone Limited Warranty Form;”
o a “Firestone Complete Auto Care Invoice” reflecting “Warranty Tire
Information” in the body of the invoice or showing a discounted tire sales
price; or
o an invoice from any of the following stores reflecting a discounted tire
