A request to have Marcus Ericsson at Formula One’s Belgian Grand Prix this weekend has provided Conor Daly another opportunity to drive in the NTT IndyCar Series.
Daly will drive the No. 7 Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Honda in the Grand Prix of Portland at Portland International Raceway. Practice for the Grand Prix of Portland begins Friday. The race is Sunday.
Ericsson is a reserve driver for Alfa Romeo’s F1 team, and the manufacturer has requested he be present for this grand prix. Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports granted the Swede a release.
Ericsson ranks 17th in the NTT IndyCar Series point standings, with a best finish of second in the second Detroit race in June.
Daly has competed in five races this season, finishing a season-best sixth last weekend at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway. He drove in that race for Carlin. He finished 10th in the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge for Andretti Autosport.
Daly made four starts for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports in the 2015 season, finishing sixth in a race in Detroit. Daly also has driven an Indy car for A.J. Foyt Racing, Dale Coyne Racing and Harding Steinbrenner Racing in his career.
The NTT IndyCar Series heads to Portland, Ore., for Sunday’s Grand Prix of Portland. Live race coverage on NBC begins at 3 p.m. ET (noon PT local) with the green flag at approximately 3:45 p.m. Live radio broadcasts will be available on the Advance Auto Parts INDYCAR Radio Network and SiriusXM Satellite Radio (XM 205, Sirius 98, Internet/App 970).
