TIRE TRACKER: TEXAS
Firestone is supplying more than 1,100 Firestone Firehawk race tires for the Genesys 300. Each entry receives an allocation of 9* sets of tires. (*Does note include rookie set)
"The return to racing in Texas reflects the strong collaboration and partnership between the NTT INDYCAR® SERIES and Firestone. With our manufacturing temporarily shut down to protect our teammates and support public health during the global pandemic, the Firestone Race Tire Engineering Team worked together with INDYCAR to evaluate options based on our available inventory, extensive data and testing, and previous race experience. Through this process we are supplying race-proven Indy 500 tires for the left-side, as well as right-side tires that were built as alternates for last year’s Texas race and tested at Texas Motor Speedway with simulated effects of the new aeroscreen.”
- Cara Adams, Director of Race Tire Engineering and Production, Bridgestone Americas Motorsports
FIRESTONE FAST FACT
To support the fight against COVID-19, employees at the Bridgestone Americas Technical Center campus in Akron, Ohio – where Firestone Firehawk race tires are designed and built for the NTT INDYCAR® SERIES – have been using prototyping equipment and their own personal 3D printers to produce nearly 3,000 face shields for frontline medical workers in Northeast Ohio.
FIRESTONE PIT STOP PERFORMANCE AWARD
The Firestone Pit Stop Performance Award has been updated for 2020 to create a season-long competition that recognizes the three crews with the shortest combined pit stop times across all races. Points will be awarded after each race to entries that complete at least 95% of the event. The winning crew will receive $75,000, while second and third place will net $50,000 and $25,000, respectively.
