Felix Rosenqvist and Alex Palou won their respective heat races from the pole Sunday as the 12-driver field for the Sprint for the Purse in The Thermal Club $1 Million Challenge is set.
The winner of the Sprint for the Purse will earn $500,000. The 20-lap feature race, divided into two 10-lap segments, starts at 1:55 p.m. ET (live, NBC, Peacock, INDYCAR Radio Network) on the 17-turn, 3.067-mile desert circuit.

Reigning NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Palou will start from the pole for the feature in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, with Rosenqvist’s No. 60 AutoNation/SiriusXM Honda fielded by Meyer Shank Racing joining Palou on the front row.
The top six finishers in each heat advanced to the Sprint for the Purse. The top six from each heat, in order:
Heat 1: No. 60 Felix Rosenqvist, No. 3 Scott McLaughlin, No. 2 Josef Newgarden, No. 45 Christian Lundgaard, No. 78 Agustin Canapino, No. 26 Colton Herta
Heat 2: No. 10 Alex Palou, No. 11 Marcus Armstrong, No. 15 Graham Rahal, No. 8 Linus Lundqvist, No. 30 Pietro Fittipaldi, No. 7 Alexander Rossi
Chip Ganassi Racing (Palou, Armstrong, Lundqvist) and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (Lundgaard, Rahal, Fittipaldi) each placed three cars in the Sprint for the Purse, more than any other teams.
Herta had to dig deep to earn a transfer spot. He started 11th in the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda fielded by Andretti Global. Rossi jumped one spot from the start to earn the final transfer spot in the second heat in the No. 7 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet.
The first race was timed, reaching a limit of 20 minutes instead of the scheduled 10 laps, due to an incident in Turn 1 after the start.
Six-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Scott Dixon’s No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda hit the rear of the No. 77 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet driven by Romain Grosjean just before Turn 1. That impact caused Grosjean to spin through traffic in Turn 1, collecting the No. 21 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet of Rinus VeeKay.
Grosjean and VeeKay were eliminated from the race. Neither driver was hurt. INDYCAR Race Control levied a drive-through penalty on Dixon for avoidable contact while he was running fifth, and he did not qualify for the Sprint for the Purse.
